Dr. Berney received his doctor of medicine from the Chicago Medical School graduating 3rd in his class with honors. He completed residency in orthopedic surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This was followed by additional fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine at Orthopedic Healthcare Northwest in Eugene, Oregon, where he served as an assistant team physician for the University of Oregon football team, the Oregon Ducks. He received his undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. He was in private practice for 10 years in Aberdeen, Washington prior to moving to Tucson.
Dr. Berney practices a patient-centered approach to orthopedic surgery, in which the patient is an integral part of the decision-making process. He firmly believes in rehabilitation, exercise, and physical therapy after surgery, as it is vitally important to the success of any surgical procedure. He is n expert in minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery, total joint replacements, fracture care, peripheral nerve decompression such as carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel release, and non-operative treatment of common bone and joint disorders. He has a particular interest and sub-specialty training in the arthroscopic treatment of sports injuries such as cartilage and meniscus tears, labral tears, rotator cuff tears, and ligament reconstruction of the ankle, knee, and shoulder.
Personal Interests
Dr. Berney enjoys skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, weight training, yoga and all activities with his son.
